Do you see what I see?

Do you see what I see?… was the caption that came instantly to me, when I saw these three young student monks busy looking at the view through the binoculars. This was in Mandalay, where I had gone on top of a hill to get a panoramic view of the city. It was interesting to watch them engrossed in this activity for some time. They were looking through the binoculars and discussing with each other and laughing and enjoying the sight. Their happiness in this simple activity was so contagious that I was curious to go closer to them and look through the very same binoculars to know what they were seeing and if I could get the same view.

I have often wondered about this. We all look at the same things and sometimes from the same point of view but we all see different things according to our personalities. From a vantage point like this, everything looks minuscule and beautiful, it is always a humbling feeling. It also makes one marvel at all the things that we have created, the buildings, the roads etc. mixing with the natural streams and mountains.

And sometimes we forget about the view and start looking at the people who are viewing it and wonder about what they are viewing. Is it ever possible that two people will have the same view, well, I think it is highly impossible. We are all uniquely designed. And like Winnie the Pooh says, “the things that make me different are the things that make me”.
